“When I listened to John Brooks remarks on RAP and vacuum, (Vol.2, No. 6, June 2006) I believe he mentioned that he saw a difference in arterial emboli counts between reservoirs with 30 and 40 micron filtration. If I heard correctly then I don’t fully understand his remarks. These micron sizes must refer to the cardiotomy filter elements. As venous blood does not enter the cardiotomy filter, this filter should not have any influence on venous return and related emboli.”

“The 30 to 40 micron size filtration was in reference to the hard-shell venous reservoir filter that the blood passes through prior to settling into the reservoir container, not the cardiotomy filter portion of the reservoir that manages suction and vent return.”
I hope this helps.
